Charter [PowerPoint presentation]
CPG charge 2001
In November 2001, the University at Buffalo Libraries embarked on a short-term strategic planning process. A Core Planning Group (CPG) was selected from amongst volunteers and nominees and had meetings with our consultant/facilitator, Lou Wetherbee, on 11/26 and 11/27. The CPG will direct the strategic planning effort, and they will be assisted by twelve subgroups working on topics which we will be considering for their potential as action items in the Libraries.
The charge is to develop a short-term directions document which will guide the libraries over the next eighteen months to three years maximum in tackling new initiatives and special projects that would advance the libraries and serve the campus. The CPG will spend from January to mid-February chairing subgroups that will do an environmental scan for trends. Once the reports are done, the CPG will draft the directions document by the end of April or early May. Goals include being as inclusive as possible, including staff at all levels and from as many units as possible within the University Libraries as part of the planning process. Besides involvement, we are looking for improved communication, a thorough understanding of library issues and directions, and commitment of staff to achieve the plans that will be set forth in our short-term strategic planning document. With this effort, we expect to engage more staff in overall library directions, create an atmosphere of openness and inclusion regarding our plans and activities, and to communicate frequently and clearly about our efforts both within the libraries, to our own staff, and to our user community as well. I hope that the process itself will lead to improved working relationships and understanding within units and across units as to our purpose and mission. With a good understanding of our directions, better service and support can be provided for our users.
