Announcements and Discussion Topics
- Mark Ludwig explained that new server equipment and software are needed for the upgrade to ALEPH version 19, scheduled for Summer 2008. The server will facilitate a test environment for the new version.
- Space and facilities issues were discussed related to the concept of an “iconic” library for the North Campus, following reports recently submitted via the “Heart of the Campus” project.
- A group is being formed in the Libraries to do environmental scans regarding library funding, facilities, services, staff at peer/aspirational institutions. This report has been requested to assist in budget planning for the Libraries.
- Nancy Nuzzo announced that the UB Libraries have received two new WNYLRC grants related to: the continuation of a project to create archival finding aids in electronic format (jointly with other local institutions); and conversion of existing microfilm of UB student newspapers to digital format and mounting this content on the WNYLRC Web site.
- Dean Mary Gresham, Graduate School of Education, and Prof. Judith Robinson, Chair DLIS, have requested the initiation of discussion with the UB Libraries regarding a closer relationship/interaction between the Department of Library and Information Science and the UB Libraries.
- Directors Council meetings were cancelled for December 4 and 11, due to conflicting events or travel.
