Announcements and Discussion Topics:

  1. Steve Roberts reported that he and Sharon Schiffhauer will meet with Sean Sullivan to discuss budget carry-forwards.
  2. Judy Adams-Volpe and Nancy Nuzzo will serve on a search committee to hire a new Development Officer. This person will work for the University Libraries for one year and have an office in the Libraries.
  3. Steve Roberts provided an update on the Heart of the Campus Project. The 21st Century Library Subcommittee is developing a plan to determine space needs for the next ten years in four main areas: stacks, user, staff, and instruction.
  4. Karen Senglaup led a discussion on a draft of a Capital Budget and New Renovation Projects document to be submitted to Sean Sullivan. The document should identify all of the University Libraries’ planned capital spending plans for the next 1, 3, 5 and 10 years.
  5. Austin Booth reminded the Council that in some cases subject librarians may be added to UB2020 strategic strength groups. Nominations should be submitted to Steve Roberts for review by the Directos Council.
  6. Judy Adams-Volpe requested suggestions for gifts at the $1,000 and $500 levels that donors could purchase during the Annual Fund Appeal. Suggestions should be emailed to Judy. Steve Roberts will invite FEC to a future DC meeting to report on the Biennial State of the Libraries Survey.
  7. A small group will be charged to create a document justifying the Libraries acquisition budget for submission to Sean Sullivan. The group will assess how other libraries of similar size, staff and budget distribute their acquisitions budgets. The document should specify which quantifiable factors are used to develop the distribution formula.
