The Public Services Committee of the University at Buffalo Libraries works with the Director of Public Services to provide leadership and vision for reference, information literacy/fluency, outreach/liaison and Web-based services in support of the research, teaching and service missions of the university.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Envision the future of public services at the University by identifying and analyzing trends, innovations and best practices and creating action plans.
- Establish and review public services policies and practices, including the creation of system-wide policies.
- Develop and implement methods (i.e. statistics, user feedback) to assess all areas of public services.
- Monitor, respond to and implement changes based on user feedback on public services, including data from the LibQUAL+ ™ survey.
- Work with others to increase awareness of, market and promote public services activities and programs.
- Oversee the creation of user-friendly Web interfaces to library resources and services.
- Provide periodic reports to the University Libraries Directors Council and the Libraries’ Executive Committees on public services issues, including the creation and dissemination of memos, task force reports, white papers, etc.
- Promote communication among librarians and professional staff about public services innovations and best practices.
- Prepare budgets and secure funding for system-wide public services initiatives.
- Identify educational and training needs of public services staff and work with others to develop programs and tools.
- Create and oversee teams, task forces and working groups reporting to the Committee, including:
— Aleph OPAC Implementation Team
— E-Reference Packages Task Force
— Information Literacy/Fluency Task Force
— Web Usability Task Force

Meetings are held monthly and minutes are taken and posted to the Committee's website. Attendance is open to committee members and invited guests.
