Librarian, Architecture and Planning Library (APL), University at Buffalo; liaison to the departments of architecture and planning. Liaison, Art History Department at Lockwood (LML).
As liaison, I acquire books and multiformat materials for the Architecture and Planning Collection at APL and the Art History Collection at LML; and also provide reference and library research instruction services to the Architecture, Planning, and Visual Studies communities. I enjoy teaching and have long been interested in the most effective ways to introduce students to the wealth of knowledge available to them through libraries. It is my goal to make an impact through teaching.
I have long been interested in the use of new technologies to enhance and facilitate dissemination of knowledge to serve diverse user groups and was named a member of the NY State Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Advisory Council from 1998-2004.
Research / Service Area
Am currently attempting to master newer, continually changing information technologies, to integrate them into my instruction, and to share any new-found skills with my clientel.
In research, in addition to a couple peer reviewed articles on the bibliography of earthquake engineering literature, I have contributed to the documentation of literature by and about diverse populations (including women and minorities) in the US and recently published a paper on how better to teach research and library skills to diverse populations in design professions. This paper was noted by the American Library Association (ALA) as one of the top 20 papers on Library Instruction in 2005.
