Historical Abstracts indexes the literature about world history, excluding the United States and Canada. See America: History and Life for indexing of history about the United States and Canada.
Indexes over 1,700 scholarly journals some published in languages other than English. Regardless of an article’s language of publication, most article citations are accompanied by detailed English-language abstracts. HA is unique among indexes in its searchability by the period an article covers, not merely its date of publication. Further, history, from pre-history to the present, is broadly construed and searching may be fruitful for any concern with a historical dimension.
In 2006, Historical Abstracts began adding retrospective coverage for the most important historical journals in JSTOR. By project’s end, coverage for these journals will extend back to the late-19th century.
1954 to present. (Topical coverage goes back to 1450.) Updated monthly. But into the 19th century with the JSTOR enhancement.
