GENE-TOX is a toxicology data file produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) as part of the Toxicology Data Network (TOXNET). GENE-TOX is created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and contains genetic toxicology and mutagenicity test data resulting from expert, peer-reviewed sources in the open scientific, technical, and medical (STM) literature. Data is presented for more than 3,000 chemicals. The GENE-TOX program was established to select assay systems for evaluation, review data in the STM literature (technical reports, journal articles, reference books), and recommend proper testing protocols and evaluation procedures, protocols, and quality control standards for these systems.
Leads to tabular listings of data that include information on chemical nomenclature, taxonomic information on test organism(s), name of experimental assay used, brief summaries of results of studies posted, bibliographic citations with links to detailed bibliographic record supported by the EMIC (Environmental Mutagen Information System) Database. |
