The Multimedia Development Lab is a work space for creating presentations, websites, tutorials, analog to digital conversions, and any other visual and/or audio projects you can think of.  The MDL comes equipped with three PCs, one Mac, two flatbed scanners, a slide scanner, a multi-CD duplicator tower, and a VHS video converter.  For software, there is Adobe Creative Suite 3 (Acrobat Professional, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop), MS Office 2003.  We also have software to convert your media for online use, be it web pages or video streaming.

Why do we need a Multimedia Development Lab?

By far the most important aspect of any project today is the ability for it to be used in a digital format.  At the MDL, we provide you with equipments to digitize documents, pictures, or even x-rays so they can be shared electronically.  Even older outdated media formats can be digitized and updated to be of use again, e.g. image slides and old VHS.  On any given project, even a simple presentation, many different resources are used in its creation.  At the MDL, we have everything you need in one area on the South Campus so you can finish a project from beginning to end.

Who can use the Multimedia Development Lab?

Any UB faculty, staff, or students can use the MDL.  Please contact Lori Widzinski (829-3900 x138) or Chris Cheung (829-3900 x139) for access.

Where is the Multimedia Development Lab?

The MDL is located in the Digital Media Resources Center at the basement of the Health Sciences Library.

When is Multimedia Development Lab open?

The MDL is open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5:00.

Books in nearly all Health and Biomedical Sciences areas will be available.

Also included are a selection of books from the natural sciences, social sciences, law, business, and the humanities PLUS best sellers and popular non-fiction.

Decisions were made following consultation with appropriate and associated schools and individual faculty.  Such cuts are necessitated by the inability of the Libraries’ acquisitions budget to cover the rising costs of scholarly information and by the need to cull lesser-used materials in order to buy new items that are in high demand.  This list is multidisciplinary and arranged in alphabetical order by title.  While it does not come easily or naturally to us to cancel subscriptions, we feel that we have been able to work our way through a difficult budgetary year doing only minimal damage to the collections on which you depend.  Further, we are confident that efficient interlibrary loan and purchase-on-demand capabilities that have been greatly enhanced in recent years by computer technologies allow us to compensate quickly when you need something we do not own.
