Finding Statistics
February 27, 2007
At some point, most of us, regardless of discipline or research interests, have to locate statistics. They're not always the easiest things to find. I have trouble sometimes and I'm a librarian. Usually when I'm stumped, I turn to my colleague Linda Hasman.
Linda just created this really great research guide for locating health statistics.
She also teaches a workshop on the subject Finding Health Statistics, Stat! which will be offered on March 29, 2007 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM here at the Health Sciences Library.

Public Health Posters - Retrospective
February 16, 2007
No, this is not a post about Star Wars. This is how they were promoting immunization campaigns in 1977.

Take a look at how posters have been used for disseminating public health information throughout the 20th century. Topics range from Tuberculosis to Sexually Transmitted Diseases to Vaccinations in this great exhibit Visual Culture and Public Health Posters. For more gems like this one

There's also a whole database of American Social Hygiene Posters
And for a less US-centric look at using posters to communicate public health concerns, the National Library of Medicine also had a recent exhibit of Chinese Public Health Posters. Check it out.
