October 24, 2007
Access to CINAHL is changing
After December 31, 2007, the OVID version of CINAHL will no longer be available through HSL.
We will offer access to CINAHL via Ebsco exclusively. You can use this version now.
When CINAHL/OVID access ceases, this will directly affect your saved searches and alerts! Please consider migrating those now to the Ebsco version.
We can help.
Learn to use CINAHL via Ebsco before the change.
We are happy to arrange for a class for a department.
Have questions? Please contact me or my colleage Dean Hendrix.

International Council of Nurses calls attention to International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
October 17, 2007
According to the United Nations, 980 million people live on less than one dollar a day.[1]
And a majority of the world's absolute poor - 70% - are female.
To address the poverty of women and gender inequality in all realms, the International Council of Nurses has joined a swelling coalition calling for the immediate establishment of a United Nations Agency for Women.

Are you a user of HealthWeb?
October 09, 2007
Then you need to know that HealthWeb is going away!
HealthWeb is ceasing operations and will deactivate the Website, effective October 31, 2007. The HealthWeb project was conceived in 1994 to provide a one-stop entry point to evaluated, noncommercial, Internet-accessible resources organized by medical discipline. It has been a collaborative project of over twenty health sciences libraries in the Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine with contract support from the National Library of Medicine.
Here are suggestions for alternative Websites:
Hardin MD (Hardin Meta Directory): a "directory of directories" for health and medicine; maintained by Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa
MedlinePlus: National Library of Medicine (NLM)consumer-oriented site that brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), other government agencies, and health-related organizations
Google Health Co-op: a project that allows subject expert individuals and organizations to establish accounts and then create annotations with a limited number of categories or limits to links in the Google Health database
