HPV and Oral Cancers
September 12, 2007
The human papillomavirus (HPV) has been linked to such serious conditions as cervical cancer and even some oral and oropharyngeal cancers. A recent article in the journal General Dentistry suggests that the new HPV vaccine may contribute in the reduction of oral and oropharyngeal cancers (that are a result of HPV).
To take a look at the article in General Dentistry stop by the Health Sciences Library and browse through the current journals section.
Interested in further research on HPV and oral cancers? Try the following searches in PubMed:
(Human papillomavirus 18 OR Human papillomavirus 16) AND mouth neoplasms
Mouth Neoplasms/virology*
Carcinoma, Squamous Cell/virology* AND (Human papillomavirus 18 OR Human papillomavirus 16)
"Papillomavirus Vaccines"[Mesh] AND mouth neoplasms (this is new, so there is not a lot of information available yet)
Also, these journals, available electronically, from HSL may have some interesting information:
Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
International Journal of Cancer
