National Library of Medicine Classification System

The National Library of Medicine Classification System covers the field of medicine and related sciences. The Health Sciences Library uses the NLM classification system for the shelf arrangement of all library materials, regardless of format.

The NLM classification is a system of mixed notation where alphabetical letters which denote broad subject categories are further subdivided by numbers. The NLM Classification uses schedules QS-QZ and W-WZ, permanently excluded from the Library of Congress Classification Schedules.
