Virtual Guidance Office is designed to help guidance counselors best serve their students by providing answers to common questions regarding working with their guidance counselor, thinking about a future in college or other post-secondary schooling, or preparing to enter the workplace. Compact and easily accessible, this CD-ROM product is not designed to eliminate the need for guidance counselors, but instead is designed to assist the students develop more focused questions as they prepare to discuss options with the counselor.

Using a question and answer format, students select from one of three categories: General Questions, Preparing for College, and Preparing for a Career. Each category includes more specific subcategories and lists of questions. Once the question is selected, the student goes to the answer screen and finds either a text screen with the answer or a video clip of a counselor answering the question. Additional features include “hall pass” icons that, when selected, provide tips or interesting facts related to the question; “hear audio” icons on the text-based screens that allow the user to hear the text read aloud; an extensive glossary; a list of helpful web resources; and a teacher’s guide in PDF format.
