The reviews are aimed at an educational audience, primarily academic librarians. There are some reviews of K-12 titles in the database, but they are not the main focus.
Select reviews are included in OCLC's Worldcat.org database beginning in September 2008.
The database began in 1997 as the AV Review Database, part of the peer-reviewed publication, MC Journal: The Journal of Academic Media Librarianship, an electronic journal devoted to issues in media librarianship. When the journal ceased publication in January 2002, the AV Review Database continued on as Educational Media Reviews Online. EMRO is very much a team effort designed to be a "win-win" project for the library community. The reviewers, distributors and filmmakers are to be commended for their participation in the formation of a quality database for the information professions.
EMRO is an open access scholarly project.
Anyone interested in writing reviews for EMRO, or distributors and filmmakers interested in having materials reviewed, please contact the Editor, Lori Widzinski via e-mail at widz@buffalo.edu.
