MiniMed School Resources

The UB MiniMed School Program provides an opportunity for individuals who did not pursue a medical degree to learn about many topics of interest in the medical profession. The MiniMed School offers courses modeled after the material taught to medical students. The courses are open to the general public for a nominal fee. These resources, which are organized by course subject, are compiled to coincide with topics presented in each class.

“Endocrinology is the study of the endocrine system: the glands that produce hormones, the hormones themselves, the organs systems that hormones help regulate, and the various factors and systems that regulate production of hormones.”

This is a list of resources available in the Health Sciences Library and on the Internet. Other resources owned by Lockwood Memorial Library can be found by searching the UB Catalog. Items in each category are arranged alphabetically by title.

This site provides a basic overview of the thyroid and its function. The American Diabetes Association is the nation’s leading 501(C)3 nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information, and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching hundreds of communities. The site offers advice for maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise, as well as providing a variety of recipes and nutritional guides.

CDC: Diabetes Public Health Resource
Information for the public and professionals about diabetes, including research, statistics, and educational publications. This site contains information about being active, eating a balanced diet, as well as children’s resources.

Directory of Diabetes Organizations
NDIC was established in 1978 to increase knowledge and understanding about diabetes among patients, health care professionals, and the general public. To carry out this mission, NDIC works closely with NIDDK’s Diabetes Research and Training Centers; the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP); professional, patient, and voluntary associations; Government agencies; and State health departments to identify and respond to informational needs about diabetes and its management.
