MiniMed School Resources
The UB MiniMed School Program provides an opportunity for individuals who did not pursue a medical degree to learn about many topics of interest in the medical profession. The MiniMed School offers courses modeled after the material taught to medical students. The courses are open to the general public for a nominal fee. These resources, which are organized by course subject, are compiled to coincide with topics presented in each class.

Part of the University of California at Irvine, this site offers .wav files that simulate implants from 1 through 8 channels, as well as a simulation of music via a cochlear implant. A useful demonstration for those who can hear.
Auditory-Verbal U.K.: Children, Parents and Professionals in Partnership
Although this program is centered in the U.K., the information may be useful to those in the U.S. The site describes the auditory-verbal approach to helping hearing-impaired children with hearing aids and implants become integrated into the hearing world.
Cochlear Implant Education Center
This site is part of the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University, which “investigates, evaluates, and disseminates effective practices related to cochlear implant technology and its role in the education and lives of deaf children from birth through high school.”

Deafness Research Foundation
The leading source of private funding for basic and clinical research in hearing science. In effect, DRF is the “venture capital” arm of hearing research, annually awarding grants to promising young researchers and established researchers to explore new avenues of hearing science. DRF publishes Hearing Health Magazine, whose web pages offer snippets of articles, as well as valuable Q&A information and an events calendar. The DRF pages offer a Hearing Health Dictionary, a research grants center, a list of resources by state, a news section, and a featured topic.
