Mail Vehicle Memo

Hello, all.

I am pleased to report a change for the better in our Mail Delivery operation. The Libraries have replaced the problematic van with a new vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee. Maintenance costs for the van, always expensive, were becoming prohibitive as the vehicle aged. There have been many snowy days when the runs had to be cancelled because the van couldn't make it up and out of the dock. Also, there was room for only one passenger, unless you were willing to squat in the dark between UGL Circ returns and APL new books.

The new vehicle can seat four passengers, and we therefore are pleased to offer a new service. With 24 hours notice, we will schedule a drop off and pick up of Libraries personnel who have work-related business between campuses, or within a reasonable local area.

Since we will necessarily be making more frequent trips with this smaller vehicle, the vehicle must be available at all times to Mail Room and CTS staff. It will, therefore, not be lent to pick up gifts, materials, or for any other reason. The Libraries van is now in the hands of the Athletics Dept., and they have agreed to allow Libraries personnel borrow the van to pick up gifts, etc. should the need arise. Contact Dave Borsuk in Athletics (x6831) to borrow the van. University Personnel can also rent a van, with unlimited mileage, from Budget Rental for $30/day.
