Overview

The High Point Redevelopment Project was intended to reintegrate a formerly isolated enclave of poverty and crime with the greater West Seattle neighborhood physically, socially, and economically.

The selection committee commended the project for its revitalization of the neighborhood through the redesign of the confusing street pattern and integration of project streets into the adjacent West Seattle neighborhood; for providing a mix of housing types and a range of affordability in a single project; and for its green efforts toward enhancing the natural environment of Seattle through water conservation, recycling demolished streets, installing a natural drainage system, and building a large percentage of "green" Energy Star rental homes. The project is also cited for providing a model for job training and other social and economic support for tenants.
