Overview
The Award committee selected the Children's Museum as an outstanding example of urban placemaking and a model for institutional leadership in urban revitalization. The Committee commended the project for integrating green design and historic preservation in a handsome contemporary structure; conducting an innovative development process, which included charrettes, competitions, and public participation; providing an innovative model for a cultural organization serving as a catalyst for change in an under-served urban neighborhood; and maintaining high quality in designing exhibits and the environment of the Museum to serve multiple age groups.
