Minnesota Dean Named Buffalo U. Chancellor

Buffalo, May 8 – Dr. Thomas Raymond McConnell, Dean of the College of Science, Literature and the Arts of the University of Minnesota, was elected today to succeed Chancellor Samuel P. Capen of the University of Buffalo.

The article above is available in our new subscription to ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The New York Times (1851-2009).

Serving between Samuel Capen and Clifford Furnas from 1950-1954, Dr. McConnell is perhaps one of U.B.’s forgotten Chancellors/Presidents.  To listen to a taped interview with Dr. McConnell, conducted by the University Archives in 1979, visit the University Archives Oral History Collection website.
