Lockwood Memorial Library
Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP)

When the fire alarm sounds, immediately take the following actions:

  1. Secure own office or work area if it is safe to do so (turn off computer or other power equipment, gather personal belongings, close windows and door).
  2. Direct anyone in general vicinity to nearest exit immediately. Do not use the elevator.
  3. Observe and be alert. Note fire-involved or smoky areas. Ensure disabled persons are taken to a safe area. Most exit stairwell landings or an office with the door shut or near a sprinkler and a good safe distance away from the hazard can be used.
  4. Exit yourself and proceed to the Emergency Assembly Area outside the Baldy Hall entrance.
  5. Make report to the Building Emergency Manager or designee and prevent anyone from reentering the building until word is given that the building is safe.

NOTE : Fire hose lines are located in cabinets throughout the library. Use of these hose lines is restricted to professional fire fighters who are properly trained and equipped. Do not attempt to use the hose lines to extinguish or control a fire.

NOTE : There are a number of portable fire extinguishers of various types distributed throughout the library. If you are not trained in the use of portable fire extinguishers, please do not attempt to use them.
